ATLAS Star Medical Centre celebrates second anniversary
Times of Oman, Aug 28, 2006

Muscat: A well known local medical centre has celebrated the second anniversary of its operations in a befitting manner. ATLAS Star Medical Centre, part of the internationally acclaimed ATLAS Jewellery Group, completed two years of dedicated service in Muscat and organized a well attended blood donation camp yesterday.

"We want to give something back to society and we thought that a blood donation camp is the best way to express our appreciation," M.M. Ramachandran, Chairman and Founder of the ATLAS Jewellery Group said in a message. Expressing his happiness, he thanked all "those who contributed to make ATLAS Star Medical Centre, the first choice for people living in this part of the world".

The blood donation drive was done in association with the department of blood services at the Ministry of Health (Bausher Blood Bank). Dr Rohil Raghavan, the doctor in charge of administration, inaugurated the camp by donating his blood. "There were around 42 donors. There were actually double that number of volunteers but many were not able to donate," he informed the Times of Oman.

"This is a small step taken by us. We hope to make this blood donation, a regular feature," he added.

Ramachandran, mean-while, was ecstatic about ATLAS Star Medical Centre achieving this milestone. "It is like a dream come true for me. I had envisioned reaching this important landmark, and it is the contributions of each and every employee, as well as the strong acceptance of the patients that have made ATLAS a name to reckon with in the field of healthcare here.

"It is easy to have a vision, but to realize it in practical terms, depends not only on the efforts of the top management, but also on the contributions of each and every employee - right to the lowest level.

"What I find in ATLAS is that everybody has realized their responsibilities and perhaps that is the reason why we are in a position to celebrate. I would like to put in my appreciation of the great work done by the team who has spared no efforts to achieve what we wanted in such a short span of time," he added.

"ATLAS has in just two years expanded its facilities. When we stated our operations here in Muscat, we had very few doctors and nurses, but over a period of time, our team has expanded."

"We have added lots of new specialties and there has also been expansion in every department. In such a short period of time, we have managed to establish ourselves and create a good name in the public", he said.

Ramachandran noted that Omanis were also utilizing their services. "They have formed an important base among our patients. We are happy to announce that most of the Omanis have brought in their friends also to the clinic. Our satisfied patients are thus helping us to get more patients. The friendly ambience, the experienced and qualified doctors and the compassionate paramedical staff have played a major role in our patients getting full satisfaction," he said.

Dr. Rohil said in the past one year, ATLAS began its services with two operation theatres, the labor room, the surgery and the casualty departments. "Our two operation theatres are well equipped with centralized oxygen, fresh air, a hydraulic OT table with all accessories, most modern anesthesia machines and above all well-trained and professional staff. All surgical cases including general surgery orthopedics, ENT, ophthalmology, gynecology, etc can be undertaken."

"The labor room is equipped with a cardioto program for fetal monitoring and an infant resuscitation unit and phototherapy. The labor room also has a centralized oxygen supply. All these types of cases, right from normal deliveries to caesarean sections can be conducted here," he said. The casualty is open around-the-clock and the duty doctors are trained to meet the address the emergency needs of the patients. The specialties are also available on call 24 hours.

"Yet another highlight is the fact that our doctors can be reached anytime of the day or night. Within the next two months, this centre will also be able to provide the services of a cardiologist, urologist, and pathologist," he added.
