Ophthalmology has been my passion since childhood. Since my student days , I was fascinated by the fact that an Ophthalmologist has the ability to give vision in a day to an almost blind person - by performing cataract surgery. I loved the smile on those faces who regain vision during my post-operative rounds.
Medical breakthrough and technological advances that have happened in the last two decades that I have been practicing Ophthalmology, especially in the diagnostic area and with Lasers, have made our field very interesting and ever challenging. I got opportunity to work in various reputed hospitals like Indira Gandhi Medical College in Nagpur, India. In Oman I was initially with the Ministry of Health for 7 yrs in Sohar Hospital and have worked later in Muscat in the private sector. I consider prevention better than cure and hence concentrate on screening for diseases like Glaucoma and Diabetic Retinopathy. Permanent visual loss can be avoided with early diagnosis of conditions like refractive errors, squint and amblyopia. Eye strain in children due to children handling electronic gadgets for long hours is a major parental concern these days. Treating and educating these kids is another area of interest for me. By working in various capacities as Assistant Professor, then Specialist in MOH and now in private sector since 5 yrs, I intend to serve mankind with the surgical and clinical skills that I have acquired so far. To summarize career in Ophthalmology is a rewarding experience. A little more about me
